Canadian Blood Services: A Normal Period Drivers (Device Manager): To join our power logistics water

Belong to logistics The Board is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by using best practices to ensure the safe transport of staff, donors, equipment, blood products, and supplies. Our drivers do more than drive. In this role, you will assist in organizing rooms, tables, and other equipment to ensure mobile donations are ready for use, as well as transporting people and goods related to the Canada Hotline.

Plan for success.

  • Using your driving and transportation experience, you ensure that blood and blood products are transported according to safety regulations and procedures and are kept at the correct temperature. You also ensure the safety of staff, sponsors, and/or volunteers traveling with you. 
  • Drawing on your knowledge of safe transportation methods and attention to detail, you will conduct pre-trip inspections to ensure equipment is in good condition. Complete all required documents. 
  • You will support the fundraising team by using your customer service skills, greeting donors, and helping to book or rebook appointments as needed. 
  • You will help set up mobile Wi-Fi systems and networks using your knowledge of technology and ability to learn new software. 
  • Using your excellent communication and interpersonal skills, you will work with staff to transport, install, and dismantle equipment and supplies. You will load and unload equipment and supplies at donation center locations and upon returning to the center.

Education and skills are required.

  • Have completed a high school diploma or equivalent. 
  • Must have a valid Nova Scotia driver’s license, Class 2, and a commercial driving record within the past 30 days. 
  • Have at least 24 months of experience as a professional driver in the last 3 years. 
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to learn new systems and programs. 
  • Willingness to learn procedures in a controlled environment. 
  • Good communication ability in English. A second language is considered an asset.

What you can expect

  • Shifts/Hours: Must be flexible in using assigned shifts based on operational needs; the length of the shift varies depending on the event at the Canadian Blood Services center and the shift. Duties include days, evenings, weekends, nights, and statutory holidays.
  • You don’t have to travel long distances or cross borders. 
  • Physical ability to load, unload, push, and carry heavy equipment and hospital supplies. This includes bending, kneeling, stooping, lifting up to 23 kg (50 lbs.), and pulling and pushing up to 136 kg (300 lbs.) on wheeled stands.
