Farm Worker Job Description

We are looking for an efficient and experienced farmer to join us. The job is part-time all year round, but you must be willing to work overtime during the harvest season. During this time you will also help cut, rake, and tie hay. In the off-season, you help with landscaping and weeding, animal care, fencing and cleaning or repairing equipment. The ideal candidate has all-weather farming experience and is comfortable with a variety of farming tasks. Food and accommodation are negotiable.

Duties and responsibilities

• Work as a semi-skilled worker on an institutional farm; perform tasks such as ploughing, harrowing, cultivating, fertilizing, watering, and harvesting agricultural crops in designated plots and areas.

• Operate cotton pickers, combines, tractors, transport and spray equipment, chain saws, forklifts, front loaders, milking machines, and other general and specialized equipment used in general agriculture.

• Care of livestock and poultry, including cleaning, feeding, weighing, and medicinal treatment of animals; check whether animals are not sick or have other ailments.

• Mix soil, sand, and fertilizer according to specifications; prepare pesticide solutions; and operate spraying equipment in designated plots and areas for insect control.

• Changes oil and grease and performs limited repairs on farm equipment and machinery; helps with repairs and general yard maintenance

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

• Some knowledge of practical agricultural operations, such as ploughing, planting, irrigation, fertilising, cultivation and harvesting.
• Some knowledge of livestock and poultry care.
• Some knowledge of operation and maintenance requirements of ploughs, cultivators, milking machines, harrows, tractors, seed drills, sprayers and other agricultural equipment and tools.
• Ability to care for all livestock and maintain a sanitary facility.
• Ability to understand and carry out routine oral and written instructions.
• Ability to withstand prolonged exposure to various weather conditions.
• Skills in the use and maintenance of equipment used in agriculture.
